What are COMSEC containers used for?

ANSWER: GSA approved IPS containers are meant to protect the closed door operations of communications-computer equipment.

Where are these IPS containers integrated?

ANSWER: While there are a wide variety of applications for security of classified information, the main uses are in information assurance centers (IAC's), server farms, classified communications rooms or closets.

How do I know it's GSA Approved?

ANSWER: Look for the BLUE LABEL

COMSEC Containers CANNOT not be used to protect on line computer data files that have been deemed classified (this includes disk packs or other devices that store, transmit or process classified information).

All GSA Approved Safes and file cabinets are equipped with high security locks that meet the Federal Specification FF-L-2740. Examples of these locks are the X-07, X-08, or X-09.

How do I tell if my filing cabinet or safe meets GSA Standards?

ANSWER: ALL GSA Approved Containers will have the official GSA label affixed to the front of the door or drawer in the upper left hand corner. If you have a GSA Container that does not not have the official GSA label affixed to the door or drawer in the above fashion, then it is not considered certified. Therefore it cannot hold classified, secret or top secret material or information.

Please note that the ioSafe does not carry a GSA Approved rating or label but is recommended for additional fire and water protection, as well as data security. The rack mountable version of the ioSafe can be easily incorporated into the Class 5 IPS container with the 19" rack mounts that are available.

Many of our clients believe that the Class 5 and Class 6 containers offer fire protection - but this is not true - only the out of date specification for Class 1 and Class 2 containers had fire protection.
